The Basket Case 

I am Angela Jo Case, known locally as "Gigi - The Sailor Chick". I beach comb after storms and pick up pieces from the Key West coral reefs that have been washed ashore onto to our beautiful white sandy beaches. Back at the floating dock where I live on a 32' sailboat, I clean, sanitize, preserve and dry these organic reef treasures. Then I restore color to each piece.
 

This all started back in 2000 when my husband Loren and I sailed our 24' sailboat down the Missouri River and on all the way to Key West. We were only going to stay a couple of weeks to rest up and then travel on, but that was 8 years ago. A friend handed me a dried sea basket and said " Gigi, see what you can do with this!" About a week later, I designed my first sea basket and I became "The Basket Case." My last name is "Case" and we had already named our live aboard Shih Tzu "Justin Case," so everything fit perfectly.

My art is inspired by our Father "The Creator" and the beauty that surrounds me—the crystal clear blue water, sightings of marine life by day and night and the legendary Key West sunsets. All of my recycled Coral Reef Art pieces have shells, which are the flowers of the sea, like the flowers of the earth.

My art is on display in the gift shop at the Hemingway Home in Key West where my husband is a tour guide (using his mid-western story telling talents to entertain visitors). I also have a studio on Stock Island near where our sailboat is docked.

Now, you can take home a real piece of Key West to be treasured for many years. My Coral Reef art pieces are one of a kind and truly designed in paradise. Enjoy and be blessed.
